Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a simple yet impactful word that shapes my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at Vitalia Mentor in Mentor, Ohio, the start of a new year provides the perfect opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for what lies ahead. This word becomes a compass, guiding my leadership, supporting families, and enriching the lives of our residents. Reflecting on the past year, I am amazed by how much my Word of the Year influenced 2024, both in expected and surprising ways.
As a newly opened community in late 2023, we embraced guiding principles to define our culture during Vitalia Mentor’s first year. Our collective Words of the Year for 2024 were trust, transparency, respect, accountability, integrity, and empathy. These words shaped our decisions, actions, and the foundation of our team. Each word gained significance during various seasons of the year, anchoring our growth and progress.
Looking back on 2024, I am proud of the strong team and culture we have created. These foundational efforts have prepared us to face challenges with resilience and a steadfast commitment to our residents and community. The lessons learned this year have paved the way for continued leadership and growth.
